TeenCamp @Ross is an extraordinary opportunity for high school students to develop hidden passions or explore new directions. Work with Ross School’s distinguished faculty to help master new skills and challenges while having fun and building self-confidence. Students can choose from classes in Arts, Humanities, Media and Wellness.

Classes
Acting
This program is designed for the teen with talent, hidden or not. This is a chance to immerse yourself into acting in a safe and fun place. Challenge yourself while learning easy techniques. Free yourself while exploring theater games and improvisation. The session ends with a performance of our creation.

CERAMICS
Students explore and express themselves in the medium of clay under the guidance of a ceramic artist who teaches both coil and slab building techniques. They learn to throw on the wheel and trim and glaze pieces. They also develop their own throwing styles, investigate traditional forms and experiment in new ones, and explore surface design, glazing and firing processes.

CREATIVE WRITING
Embark on a writing adventure and discover the expansive world of your imagination. Conjure up characters and new worlds, and bring them to life as your unique writer’s vision comes into focus. In this class, we collect ideas, grow them into a variety of forms, and develop character and voice through stories or the special power of poems. We also learn illustration and design. Ultimately, everyone produces a digitally published book all their own.

CULINARY ARTS
Explore your gastronomic potentials under the guidance of a professionally trained chef. Hands-on workshops incorporate basic culinary and baking skills, healthy eating and flavor expansion. Emphasis is placed on utilizing fresh and seasonal ingredients from our local East End farms. The appetizing results inspire a respect for our food as we learn to prepare it safely and sustainably.

Digital Photography
Learn techniques and tricks that professionals use so you can improve your skills to make great pictures. Understand the classic basics of photography and apply them to the digital era. Take your digital pictures to an advanced level, improve your skills at taking pictures and learn to control your images like a professional. Learn and understand how to treat your digital images like a negative and get the most from your camera.

Drawing/PAINTING/Sculpture
Young adults are given the tools to explore their own artistic language. In a series of fun and interesting projects, we explore a wide variety of media including charcoal, monotype print, water-based paints and glazes, collage and plaster-casting. Working from life and imagination, participants build creative self-confidence and artistic skill.

FILMMAKING
Working on state-of-the art equipment, develop and transform your vision into digital films. All aspects of film/video making are included, from scriptwriting, directing, shooting and working with actors to post production (editing and sound mix). Students produce and direct their own original short film.

MUSIC: OPEN STUDIO
Explore and play different styles of music, including classical, rock, jazz and other contemporary styles. There are individual and group lessons to work on technique, as well as composition, music history and performance classes. Teens have the opportunity to participate in ensembles, including chamber groups, rock band and orchestra.

SurfING
Stoked. That is the only word that adequately describes the feeling of gliding down a wave in the ocean. This course is all about playing in the ocean and experimenting with different types of wave riding. Learn the basics of surfing and ocean awareness in a safe and fun environment. The camp focuses on learning and improving surfing skills, but also incorporates other forms of wave riding. Whether you have never surfed, or have experience but want friends to surf with, this is the camp for you.

MARTIAL ARTS
Students learn blocks, stances, self-defense movements, traditional Kata and mixed martial arts (MMA). This class provides students with the benefits of improved coordination, flexibility, strength, confidence, self-discipline and increased attention and concentration.
MULTI SPORTS
Engage in team sports including basketball, soccer and dodgeball. This class fosters the basic skills while promoting coordination, physical endurance and team camaraderie.
TENNIS
Using our state-of-the-art facilities we provide a relaxed yet challenging environment where players of all levels learn and play the game of tennis. Students participate in fun, fast-moving drills that emphasize our game-based approach to learning tennis. Our philosophy is to let the game create the fun as we create the player. Our goal is to introduce tennis as a lifetime sport. This course is offered Monday / Wednesday / Friday only!

TOTAL FITNESS
Learn a combination of yoga, core strengthening and weight training for ultimate conditioning and full body workout. Improve endurance, strength and flexibility while having fun working out.
